As we transition into the fall season, we wanted to share an encouraging roundup of summer updates from our programs….
Uganda
We’re gearing up for our biggest 3rd semester ever at our Uganda boarding high school and rural primary school with 1,038 students!
We now have close to 400 orphans in full-time residential care between our orphan girls home and the boarding high school, and over 500 students overall in residential care!
The new land acquired in January has now been vacated by the previous tenant farmers whose lease has expired, and the initial clearing of the land has begun (read more about the land purchase here).
Nepal
A new group of 13 girls has arrived at our She Has Hope rehabilitation home and trade school in Nepal!
The final steps of logistics are being ironed out for our bag making partnership with Sapana Dreams, a Texas-based textiles shop who supports South Asian artisans. We are very close to having everything set up for our survivor artisans in training to fulfill the first order of 100 bags at our Nepal trade school!
This partnership will help to provide scholarship funding for their trade school under our new small business initiative called “New Hope Fashions.” In this way, survivors will be “earning while they’re learning.”
India
Our newest India Children’s Hope Center after-school care program has launched on our main campus, filling our school building’s classrooms and dining hall once again!
Construction on the technical college is slow but sure, as we continue to wade through some smaller bureaucratic hurdles and other general delays.
At the beginning of this month we were able to send over additional college scholarships for 5 of our male orphan graduates to either continue their college educations, or to enter as freshmen!
Myanmar
The school year is off to a great start for the children in our Myanmar orphan homes.
Due to the ongoing civil war in Myanmar, we are considering plans for a future on-campus school.
Manila, Philippines
Our Manila field director and her team did an outstanding job once again with their summer VBS program held in July. They continue to provide after-school care at our Manila Children’s Hope Center with tutoring and nutritious meals for the 62 children enrolled.
Cebu, Philippines
The last stages of the girls home renovation and expansion project are in progress. We expect to see completion photos very soon! This expansion will allow us to serve more orphan girls.
It’s also back to school time in Cebu. The children enrolled in our Cebu Hope Center were overjoyed to receive new backpacks, uniforms, shoes, and school supplies- necessities for the academic year that their impoverished families are unable to provide.
As we look ahead to the rest of the year, we can’t wait to see what other amazing things we can achieve together for these women and children in our programs.
None of these successes would have been possible without the incredible support of our donors and supporters.
